International seminar “Competence focused module development in the field of Diversity” at Bremen University (Germany) within EU project TEMPUS IV (543873-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-DE-TEMPUS-JPCR)

The international workshop regarding development of the modules focused on competences in the field of Diversity was held from September  30th  to October 3rd 2014 at Bremen University. The workshop was organized by scientists of Bremen University, in particular with the help of Vice-Rector of the university Prof. Dr. Yasemin Karakaşoğlu and Prof. Dr. Mark Thielen. Representatives from 14 universities, including those from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, as well as TEMPUS project coordinator Prof. Dr. Olga Graumann, attended the conference. Vice-Rector for International Affairs Prof. Dr. Michael Pevsner, Head of the Institute of continuous pedagogical education Prof. Dr. Alexander Shirin, Head of the Chair for Pedagogic, Technology and Crafts Petr Petryakov, and lecturer of Pedagogy Chair Dr. Sergey Yolkin from the Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University moderated the meeting.


On the first day of the international conference, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Karakaşoğlu reported on the diversity strategies in Bremen University, Prof. Dr. Mark Tielen told about the structure of the modernized educational program in pedagogy and management of diversity that is applied in Bremen University.


Lecturer of Pedagogy Chair, Dr. Sergey Yolkin, organized a discussion in little teams about application of the Tuning Technique for modules development.


As a result, participants compiled a Bachelor and Master catalogue of competences with the pedagogical profile “Diversity”. Graduates of the “Diversity” oriented studies have to be able to work with various groups of pupils such as talented or neglected children, migrants, children with special needs etc. in a inclusive environment. 



In addition, lecturers from the partner universities developed some learning modules using Tuning Technique and presented them in English.




Finally, international projects of Bremen University were introduced to the workshop participants. Dr. Christoph Fantini presented project „Rent a Teacher Man“, and Katya Baginski lectured on promotion lesson provided by Bremen University for children and teenagers with immigrant background.


Sitting in on classes at the grammar school on Koblenzer Street (OSK Bremen) aroused great interest among the lecturers. Head of the school, Friederike Steinhaus, demonstrated to the scientists the concept of the educational institution, whereas her colleagues presented two projects „Urban Style“ and „MINT-Konzept“ which are focused on support of talented pupils from immigrant families and other social groups. Afterwards, they sat in on Math, Spanish, English, French and Social Studies lessons.



At a final stage of a seminar consultation of representatives of partner universities with professor of university Bremen by Mark Tielen and professor of university Hildesheim by Olga Graumann on preparation of the international textbook took place.


At the end of the workshop all participants from the member universities were delivered advanced training certificates. Participants were thankful to their colleagues from the Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University for the didactical assistance and friendly atmosphere during the meeting.
